United Airlines Mistakenly Sends German Shepherd To Japan

United Airlines is in hot water again, just one day after a French bulldog died on one of their flights.

When Kara Swindle and her family moved from Oregon to Wichita, Kansas, they did what any loving pet owner would do; arranged for their beloved dog, Irgo, to fly with them. There are size restrictions on any flight for animals except service animals to ride in the cabin, so Irgo was placed where the rest of the large animals would travel, in the belly of the plane. When Swindle and her two children arrived in Wichita, they were met with a dog who was not their Irgo! It was discovered that United Airlines had mistakenly swapped Irgo’s itinerary with that of a Great Dane and their poor dog was all the way in Japan.

“I just want to know where my dog is,” Swindle old KCTV-5. “He could be in Kansas City and we have no idea because the paperwork is all messed up. They have our paperwork here saying that this is the correct dog, but we know it’s not. It’s just horrible.” United originally said that the ten year old dog may need to be quarantined for up to two weeks in Japan before being able to be shipped back to The United States, but confirmed to Swindle that he was to be on a flight back to Wichita that night, after being checked by a veterinarian.

United reached out to Huffington Post with this statement: “An error occurred during connections in Denver for two pets sent to the wrong destinations. We have notified our customers that their pets have arrived safely and will arrange to return the pets to them as soon as possible. We apologize for this mistake and are following up with the vendor kennel where they were kept overnight to understand what happened.” United Airlines paid for Swindle and her two children to stay at the Marriott Hotel while they anxiously await the return of their family pet.

Talk about a stressful ordeal, for Swindle, her children, and of course Irgo, who has now flown from The United States to Japan and back in a very short time!
